All the hate is unwarranted!
11 August 2015 | by   See all my reviews
I went to see F4 just because my favorite composer, Philip Glass, co-wrote the soundtrack with Marco Beltrami. I'm not a big superhero movie buff and have not seen the previous F4 movies either. After seeing the scathing reviews, I was expecting the to experience the worst movie I've ever seen.

To my surprise, I saw a fun and excellent movie. This movie blew the doors off of "Interstellar". I was throughly entertained throughout. Not the greatest movie ever, but certainly not deserving of all the terrible reviews either. And of course, the soundtrack is great (I knew that ahead of time; already have downloaded the soundtrack).

Give F4 a chance and go in with an open mind, and don't listen to the whiners.

The thing to keep in mind about Fantastic Four is that I am judging the movie as a whole. This is the movie that the studio decided was best for theatrical release, no matter what transpired before its release and that is what I must critique. It is irritating to have to start this way, but few movies are treated with such disdain before they ever arrive in theaters. At the end of the day, Fantastic Four is just a movie. It is not one that I have any personal investment in, beyond wanting to see a good film, so while it is ultimately a bad movie, it is not the end of the world and certainly not on par with the world-ending approach Doctor Doom tries for.

The filmmakers had one job here, just to make it a more enjoyable film that the previous sub-par instalments, and after all this time, they should have had it down pact. This film, however, went through development and production hell, and the final product displays exactly that. While the first 30-minutes had me genuinely enjoying it, and the set-up had me really enthralled at what was to come, it just keeps going and going, and the set-up never ends until about two thirds through the film, and then it becomes a poorly written, poorly edited, poorly directed, and horribly executed mess, with horrendous CGI battles and an abrupt ending. "Fantastic Four" may just be one of the worst superhero films I have ever seen, and that is saying something coming from me. Miles Teller, Michael B. Jordan, Kate Mara, and Jamie Bell all do their absolute best with what they are given, and there are some great character moments, but there is literally nothing else that will stand out here. It has two action pieces that each last less than 5 minutes while the rest of the film is dialogue. That is pretty bad when you are talking about a Marvel product. Everything from the bad green screen, to the disgusting look of "Doom," this picture is a rushed product that the studio needed to get out. They should really reconsider helming the rights after this though. This review is more of a rant than a criticism, but that is solely due to the fact that a couple character moments are the only saving graces. "Fantastic Four" is one of the weakest films and biggest letdowns in such a long time for me. They had the shot a couple years ago when it was announced, and they couldn't have missed more than what they did. Boring and chalk filled with too much over-explanatory dialogue, this is one film to skip!

The Walk 2 (2015)

Director:

 Robert Zemeckis

Writers:

Robert Zemeckis (screenplay), Christopher Browne (screenplay)

Stars:

Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Charlotte Le Bon, Guillaume Baillargeon |

Storyline

Twelve people have sauntered on the moon, but only one man - Philippe Petit (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) - has ever, or will ever, walk in the huge void between the World Trade Center towers. Guided by his real-life counsellor, Papa Rudy (Ben Kingsley), and aided by an unlikely band of global workers, Petit and his gang overwhelmed long odds, betrayals, dissension and countless close calls to conceive and perform their mad plan. Robert Zemeckis, the director of such marvels as Forrest Gump, Cast Away, Back to the Future, Polar Express and Flight, again uses wounding edge expertise in the service of an emotional, character-driven story. With ground-breaking photorealistic techniques and IMAX 3D wizardry, The Walk is true big-screen cinema, a chance for moviegoers to viscerally experience the feeling of reaching the clouds. The film, a PG-rated, all-audience entertaining for moviegoers 8 to 80, unlike anything audiences have seen before, is a love letter to Paris and New York City in the 1970s,

This live action feature film absorbed by Robert Zemeckis is phenomenal! There is nothing about it that I don't like.

The Walk is set in 1974 and is about a high-wire artist named Philippe Petit (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) who lives in Paris. He sees a photo in a fortnightly about the construction of the Twin Towers in NYC and gets the inspiration to walk a tight rope linking the two buildings. This is highly illegal and very dangerous. He encounters up with a girl named Annie Allix (Charlotte Le Bon) who falls in love with him and ropes him with his dream. He finds a mentor and father figure in Pappa Rudy (Ben Kingsley), and five other assistants who support him in this life or death adventure. The Walk is a factual story.

The Walk is a drama/thriller with a spice of amorousness and comedy. Because it is based on a true story, it makes this movie even chiller and much more intense! This is also an educational movie because I didn't distinguish much about high-wire artists until this movie. I learned that there is a lot of discipline and math about how the wire is secured to provide safety for the walker.

My favorite character is Philippe Petit (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) because he is just flat-out amazing and super believable! My favorite scene is once Philippe is facing his biggest dream of tightrope walking between the twin towers. They were 140 feet apart and 110 stories high! This scene is so realistic and exhilarating that my palms were sweaty and other audience members were wriggling in their seats. Philippe says that high-wire artists are never supposed to look down when tightrope walking. Does he heed his own advice?

The Walk has jaw-dropping special effects. The opening scenes in Paris are completely in black and white apart from for an irregular pop of color, which sets a nostalgic mood. The Twin Towers were previously gone when this movie was filmed, so how did they make this so realistic? This part is truly fantastic! Watching it in 3D made it so lifelike and totally added to the intensity of the inspecting experience.

I recommend The Walk for ages 11 to 18 due to the uncertainty and mild language. Hands down I give this movie a 5 out of 5 stars because it is so remarkable! The special effects can't be beat and the temporary is super strong! I loved this movie and it is certainly on my favorites list!

This so called sequel to the Maze Runner is completely a waste of time for anyone who is expecting any similarities to the original Maze Runner. It is full of nonsensical fighting, clueless people, zero plot, a shame to actually be associated with "The Maze Runner".

If possible, take this movie back to the recording studio and delete each and every sequence of it and Think and make a sensible adventurous movie. Crappies movie of all times! It's not only misleading from the word "Runner" but also there is no Maze! Isn't it fantastic? The Scorch Trials! What does that even mean and how does the name actually is relevant to this pathetic low standard movie!

User Reviews:

visceral drug trade whodunit pulls no punches in its grim depiction of the cross-border traffic between Mexico and the Situations.

This time french-Canadian director Denis Villeinage who gave the viewers a kidnap drama suspense hit international movie "prisoners". Now coming back to screen with a action crime flick.

Emily Blunt takes the role of Kate Macer, an FBI field go-between plunged in the powerful world of a drugs cartel as well as she trying to brand her way to get a better rank for herself. She delineates perfectly the emotional conflicts of a woman employed with violence and corruption on a daily basis.

*picks from trailer* The opening arrangement in which rows of rotting corpses are found in a home in Arizona fitting to the cartel sets the tone for the helter skelter ride to follow in which Villeneuve withstands the knife-edge tension without a blip.

Nobody is who they seem to be, least of all Josh Brolin who proposes that he may be a defence contractor although Kate and her companion (Daniel Kaluuya) believes he may be from the CIA.

Also emerging from the glooms is Benicio Del Toro as Alejandro, an enigmatic figure who is the sicario of the title - in other words a hit-man whom you never where he is going to turn up next or on whose side he will be.

Although the ferocity is wince-inducing it is never gratuitous in the context of this particular world, where human beings are totally dispensable.

This incident repeats me of Jack Anderson, writer in the 1960s-70s, who ran a story about Senator Thomas Eagleton having been sentenced of drunk driving-later proved untrue.

This became a major problem for Eagleton, who was then consecutively for V.P., with McGovern and had admitted to having some cerebral issues, that aided in his decision to drop off the Democrats ticket in 1972.

I reference this because it seems both journalists got too excited to wait and check the facts.

These reporters are very determined in their own right, like the politicians they claim to keep in check.

"Crimson Peak" has much to recommend it. It's cast is spot on, it's costume design and set are beautiful and spooky. The story itself doesn't really go for the cheap thrills that most horror today goes for, and I appreciate that.

Mia Wasikowska and Tom Hiddleston have a fantastic chemistry and you readily fall in love with the love story they present you, but the real jewel of the film is Jessica Chastain. As soon as she walks on screen you know something wicked this way comes. Her piercing glare and overall sense of distaste for the other characters really unease's you in the most fun way. You can see little to no sympathy in her face and you cannot wait to see just where she'll go with it.

The story starts off as pleasantly as any period piece and you wonder what the ghouls and ghosts are up to, and whether they are in cahoots with Hiddleston and Chastain. Unfortunately by the second half, the movie looses some of its spook and becomes somewhat predictable in plot, but because of this you will be able to watch it over and over again without ever really getting bored. This is because the horror isn't the selling point of the story, the heart of the characters are. And each character has more heart than they could possibly know what to do with.

The acting is superb and although this story has been told in one way or another, you still root for a positive outcome. Guillermo del Toro creates yet another masterpiece of film. I fully enjoyed it. 8/10
